The cases were options so many US produced Sherwoods had neither the metal (wood grain vinyl) cover or wood sleeve. I don't use De-Oxit so can not help there. It would be well worth having it gone through as it is early and some caps more than likely out of spec. If the tuner is based on the S3300 tuner of the time, get it aligned as it is an outstanding tuner and a real sleeper. I use the S3300 tuner and a 20 watt S9500c amp and really like them. The amp section of the 8800 may be either a S9500 or S9900 depending on the rms power rating. Sherwood with its tube receivers just put their separates circuits onto a single chassis and my SEL-200 receiver uses a S3300 tuner as well as the SEL-300 tuner so suspect the 8800 is likewise built.
