What you say is quite true. Cost is always a factor in manufacturing.

But also note there is much more to wire than audio applications and then there are factors that are not even electrical in nature. Temperature, mechanical, atmosphere are all factors the military deals with along with other specialized industries.

As I said i like silver plated teflon wire. The insulation does not burn and the silver makes outstanding solder connections. And silver is in fact the best conductor although that's not much of a factor in an audio chassis.

Now here's the bad part. Because teflon is so stiff, when a wire is flexed too much, the stress is focused into the stripped and the joint. It breaks much sooner than a PVC insulated wire. Also teflon is not the best choice for crimped connections where the insulation is part of the crimp. Teflon being brittle cracks when crimped thus negating any benefit of the crimp strain relief. PVC is soft and conforms to the crimp.

As you can see there is a lot more to wire selection than good sound.

Just because a wire is expensive does not automatically mean it's the bets for every purpose.
