More and more, people are looking at resonance as a friend rather than an enemy. Look at Mike VansEvers and his tuning blocks, or the C34 guys. I recently mounted a full-range driver in a box of solid rubberwood (wood of the rubber tree), and the wonderful, liquid, emotional response is in part due to the fact that the box is made of a beautiful dense hardwood rather than compressed sawdust (MDF).MDF is chosen because it's cheap and because it supposedly has good damping qualities. In the future, I think we will think that MDF sounds like MDF -- i.e. dead.
Ever tried playing an instrument in an acoustically dead recording studio? It's miserable. The musicians look at their instruments and make a face like "who swapped my horn for this cheap marching band crap"? Resonance is part of music.
