Thanks for that review. I've owned the ADS 1230s since 1983, and for my money, there's nothing better in that relative price range. They listed for $1500 back then, though I got them at a discount, paying $1200. I've heard many speakers in local showrooms since then - Focal, Quad, Thiel, Polk, Vanderstein, Klipsch (lots of Klipsch), Sonus Faber, Martin Logan and more. They all sounded good but I've balked at selling the 1230s because my hunch is I'm not going to eclipse the sound of the 1230s without spending thousands of dollars for one of these high-end brands such as the Thiel 3.7cs, listed at $13,000.
It appears that nothing short of irrreparable damage to the drivers (stifflite 8" woofers, sticky gauze 2" mids and 3/4" tweeters) will get me to "upgrade." They still sound that good!

- The 1230,1530,2030,1590 and 980 all had higher spec mids and tweeters... - jonbee 16:09:44 11/12/09 ( 0)
