I wish I could find the Texas Instruments article again.

But even IF there is an optimal cable length soundn't 'no-cable' be the benchmark? In SPDIF I understand > 1.5m is desired for optimal results, but will a 1.5m cable for example sound better than say a 1" cable or just say a bare 1" connection?

For example:
A 2" wire connecting a Dac straight from the USB controller/output device on a MB should sound better than any USB cable no matter what the cost.
