Make a test.

I did this a long time ago, its really awkward but I fabricated a 2 inch USB cable just to see [listen] what the sound would be like if the 'cable' was out of the equation. The result was great, it actually led me to search about usb jitter etc. which is when I came across and article by Texas Instruments. They did a study to measure the effects of usb cable length in relation to jitter, even the length of the usb traces on the mother boards. The result was that jitter does in fact increase with cable length.

I'd love to post a link to the article but it has since been moved....will surely bookmark it again if/when I can find it.

Theoretically a usb cable of any length, by any manufacturer, using any material should not sound better than 'no' usb cable. However this is not the case. Much like not having a Pre-amp gives you the cleanest signal. But for some reason there are usb cables that improve the sound more than not having a usb cable at all....how can this be unless the wire intruduces something into the signal that comes across as positive.

Just a thought.
