Some people have a harder time than others concentrating on the music if the sound is bad, while others have the ability to easily "listen through" almost any type of bad recording and still enjoy the music. Those in the former rank might appear to be the most picky and neurotic when it comes to their audio gear and might be more likely to spend more money on it as well. And BTW, I don't think it is true that "music lovers" will always enjoy attending live performances or musical events, partly because studio recordings have forever changed the way many of us perceive and enjoy music. Musicians and recording engineers have learned how to create musical presentations that would be difficult or impossible to duplicate in a live setting, and once people become used to the experience provided by studio recordings it can be hard for those people to get the same kind of musical satisfaction at a live event. Loudspeaker systems often fall short when it comes to replicating the sound of live performances, but they often excel when it comes to transmitting the music that is on a recording. Music lovers" can be as different from each other as "musical performances" (as we know them today) are. There are so many different ways to enjoy music, and so, it can be hard to tell who is what - and how, or why.
