For a music lover it is music -> me
An audiophile is aware that it is music -> equipment -> me

A music lover may NEVER contemplate how much his music sounds "real" or like the master tape ("straight wire with gain"). He is usually in the third camp: "I enjoy music"...as an experience.

A music lover may become an audiophile, or think of some of these audiophile issues above from time to time. Just as I believe an audiophile may want to remove gear from his equation above ("forgot about the equipment and just got carried away by the music").

It reminds me of the Shakespeare expert who said he will never again know what it is like to read Othello for the first time. It harkens back to a simpler time, as a child, when only NOW matters, or, frankly, is the only realized option. A wonderful lightness of being.

The left brain has been injected into the audiophile's music listening experience.
