I respectfully disagree.

When I want to watch a movie, I want the most cinematic experience possible. Watching it on a 30" standard definition TV with built in speakers sucks. The theater is decent, but the surround sound is irritating if you aren't right in the middle of the theater. And if the theater still uses film projectors, the dust on the film is irritating. By far, the most cinematic experience is watching a movie on an appropriately large HDTV in a quiet, darkened room with a detailed sound system. Likewise, with music, I want to listen in the most idea circumstances, even if it isn't public.

Concerts are ... interesting. The best sound is near the engineers, where the seating is too low or too far away to see the musicians play. The mixes are simplistic by necessity of limited parts and less room sonically. The performances are virtually always inferior to the studio recordings where they had all week to get the cut right. I enjoy going for the spectacle, I enjoy sharing the experience with friends, and I'm sure I'd go more frequently if I had significantly more disposable cash. But to me, live music is not the definitive version, so to speak.
