Adaug, Alpha Al, and Sebrof nailed it.

As a musician, I'm a music lover. Beyond that, I'm a sound lover - whether it's music or the everyday sounds around us. (Edit: Just now, a helicopter flew over, and I paid attention to how the sound and house resonance changed as it passed by - that's how goofed up I am!) I would never consider myself an audiophile, although I'm very interested and involved in the quality of reproduced sound, and how we can manipulate it to suit our desires.

My academic background started in music, but quickly began to include audio and acoustics, and my professional background includes all of them as well. I consider myself lucky to have been able to study all of these areas academically and then work in them.

On the other hand, when I come to your house for a party, I'm perfectly happy to hear good music on an average system, and my question will be: Where's the beer? :)

Have a lovely, sound-filled, day! (Or, a really quiet one, where even the tiniest sound can be considered.)

Dave
