I hate to make too strong of a comparisons to any one amp in that the final approval of any product is in the beholder. Comparisons must be made however slanted they may be. I in no way intend to alienate myself with my opinions and do not mean to offend anyone with my personal impressions. With that said, I never felt the Ayre V-1 was able to match the performance of the others. This is why I conspicuously left it out of any comparison. My personal impressions were that the Ayre was it seamed thin in it's overall presentation. I felt the high frequencies were a bit etched to almost grainy. (Again this was my impressions against the others, if heard alone this too is a great amp) The midrange was as good in tonal quality as the other amps but just a bit thin, not able to create the depth and body of the others. The bass I do not recall, I assume I had no real issues with the bass or I think I'd remember it.

P.S. I think Charles has made a point that sould be taken into account in all my comparasons. I would suspect most if not all these amps have undergone changes, thus making my bench mark suspect.
