I agree with your assessment of Aluminum remotes as being too heavy and too cold. If a manufacturer wants to be high-end in these, I would suggest milled delrin or something similar in the plastics family.

I have a Classe CAP-100 with an Aluminum remote that I dislike. The funny thing is that the face plate of the Classe is so thick that the infrared receiver can only receive the control signals through a very narrow angle, practically, only when it is aimed straight-on. For all practical purposes I don't use the remote. I have to laugh at all this high-end foolishness.
