Re: I want to hear the Laurels.

I got an assembled pair in Feb 2000 with the Ultimate upgrade and I
have no desire to listen to another 300B amp(s). I had 300B's from
a respected manufacturer before these and there is no comparison. Go
for the upgrade and you will be on your way to sonic bliss.

I am driving Klipsch La Scalas with external xovers using Jensen PIO
caps for xovers on the mids and tweets, Solen caps on the woofers
with Goertz inductors. Stunning results. Horns are damped and rewired
internally. I have owned these speakers for 20 years and now they are good for another 20. Tweaked, these just may be the best horns for the
$$$ if you have room for them.

I got a used REL Strata II sub for the bottom octive and am way more than happy. The Scalas cut of at 45hz. They now have 'bass balls'VBG.

Also, Mullard 5AR4's seem to be the best rectifier in the Laurel's. I tried Mullard GZ37's and GZ33's but the above was the clear winner.
JMHO on the rectifier.

Ron knows his stuff and is great to deal with.
