VPI Scoutmast VS JA Michell Gyro dec

SUNDAY – SUNDAY – SUNDAY – Monster Table Rally. VPI vs JA Michell – Who will win.
Ok…so there are no winners or losers – just differences, however I value your opinions. I am looking at buying a new Turntable. Currently I have a VPI HW19 Junior, which I have had for 10 years. I recently upgraded everything in my audio chain except for the Turntable and Arm. It seems so weird that I have a Benz Ruby 3 mounted on a turntable and arm that cost about 1/3 the price of the cartridge! Soon this will change.
Current System:
Benz Ruby 3
Nova Phonomena
Vandersteen Sig 2ce’s
Ayre AX-7e Integrated Amp
Audioquest biwire rocket speaker cable
Kimber PBJ interconnects
Current Room (likely to change in a year or two)
17x17 room
Concrete Floor
Goals:
With the Benz and the Vandersteen’s I think the system sounds a bit soft and forgiving. This is good because it helps bad recordings sound more listenable, but I would like to pick up the rock/slam factor a bit…which maybe translates into PRAT.
The Scoutmaster has received tons of positive reviews and I can probably find one used. The Michell is also highly regarded, but I can’t seem to find as many reviews as I can with the VPI. I like the VPI brand, but I love the looks of the Michell Table. My Local dealer that carries both brands, should be getting a used Michell gyro dec in soon and can sell it for half price. He seems to think that the two tables are a wash – can’t go wrong with either.
What are your opinions?
