ACOTD -- Chicago edition

Man, there are *so many* great Basie records. Just about anything on Roulette, for starters, and pretty much anything with Hefti. I love the way the horn section just leaps out of my speakers on a record like this -- the dynamics of the Basie band(s) was often astounding.

This is the typical, mid-1050s group: Ernie and Marshal Royal, Eric Dixon, Frank Wess, Buddy Catlett, Sonny Payne, Freddie Green, and a few others. I don't know how long he was with the band, but Thad Jones is on trumpet here as well.

Plus, that's a pretty sweet ride Basie's got.
