Re: Crown Jewel

Posted by sk on April 26, 2001 at 20:36:59:

I have been told, direct from Japan, that the Crown Jewel SE cartridges I have bought are NOT the same as the Sheltor cartridges. A reviewer who has had both a Sheltor 501 and CJ SE told me the CJ SE was by far the superior cartridge. Also when the Japan trading Co. first startted selling the Sheltor 501 they told everyone this was the Crown Jewel SE. Now they have in their ads the Sheltor 901, selling at $1300, and claiming this is the CJ SE. Do you believe?
As a result of this, and the fact that I have heard from several customers of reliabliity problems with the Sheltors, I have discontinued the buying of the Crown Jewel cartridge. I sold over 500 cartridges and for what it's worth, have always enjoyed it more than any other cartridge I have ever heard until recently. (The Kondo IO-j is my new reference which has made my CJ SE sound like a toy. See Bill Gaw's review at http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/viewpoint/0401/aachapter20.htm
