Looking at the fine pitch control method. The eddy brake. Wild and cool stuff. Just try and wrap you head around how eddy currents are created and then utilized for this purpose.

Anyway I found an easy way to adjust the gap distance between the permanent magnet and the large pulley. Photo should explain.

I found that setting the gap distance to a uniform .010 inches gave me a setting that locks in the strobe near to the middle of the pitch control range. More details and many photos at link below.
