Interesting article. Here's an interesting quote that no one ever speaks about here. The cost of DIY

Posted by artemus on July 19, 2006 at 12:17:44:

If I add the cost of the power supply and fair market value of the machining time of my friend, the cost of the Garrard is not that much cheaper than the VPI TNT-5.
Found in the paragraph right under the picy of the VPI TNT.

I've been meaning to post about the cost of DIY, but haven't had time to do so. It came to me after I spent a full day (if not more) building a sand box. (the sand box was two piece. One for motor and one for TT)So how much did that sand box cost me if I figure my labor into it? Consider design time, gathering materials, research, etc. Is DIY REALLY cheaper if labor cost is figured in?

My bro In Law and I used to have this debate often. He always said DIY was cheaper, but never figured his labor. I say not, but I figure in my labor time. I think you're fooling yourself if you don't figure in you labor. Just a thought
