you just didn't clean them enough.

Scrub in a short arc back and forth, move a 1/2 of the arc along, and scrub again.

Go in this circular motion for about a minute. This is to remove the "loose" crud.

rinse well with distilled water.

using new, clean scrubber repeat the scrubbing routine. This time scrub a GOOD TWO MINUTES. This is to get the nastier stuff that doesn't come up easily.

rinse again.

pat dry.

This will get you close to what you can achieve with the proper tools, methods and fluids.

ps

don't believe that there is a "miracle" fluid that will do this for you, unless it's that stuff they call "elbow grease".
