Bach on new vinyl....kind of a huh...

Posted by TGR on April 20, 2017 at 17:25:44:

Elusive Disc lists 38 titles for Bach on its site. No Brandenburgs, no orchestral suites, no St. Matthew's Passion, but fully 5 complete sets of the cello suits (Ma, Rostropovich, Fournier, Maisky, Starker, and then one of Filippini doing two of them). And one of my used LP pushers indicates that the first Bach items to go are recordings of the cello suites. So, huh....very interesting, I would not have thought that the cello suites had that level of popularity. I own the Starker SACD and the Casals CDs - kinda hankering for a set on LP, which has become my preferred playback medium.

(One of my favorite LPs of Bach, the 1981 analog issue of Gould performing the Goldberg variations, seems to be out of print).
