RE: REVIEW: Sonic Research Sonus Blue Phono Cartridge
Posted by neobop on July 7, 2014 at 17:07:10:
Interesting review. The load capacitance is internal tonearm wire + interconnect + preamp shunt capacitance. Maybe I missed it, but total capacitance load was?
Exceeding recommendation will usually make it brighter.
The Sonus Formula 4 is not the same as the Mayware. Although the eff mass is similar, the Sonus arm tube looks quite different and the counterweight is underslung.
It's interesting to note that Peter Pritchard advocated an arm/cart resonant frequency of approx. 6Hz, not the usual 8 - 12Hz range. The eff mass of the Sonus arm is 4.1g and with a 50cu cart weighing 5.5g, should have a res. freq. of < 7Hz.
The most common pairing of the Black Widow (at least the ones I saw) was with the heavy base tables of the KD-500, and 600. I suspect results might have been a little better with a more solid table and a low capacitance tonearm cable. Thanks for the effort in doing this review.
