I do not entirely agree...

To eliminate all speakers with foam surrounds is taking a pretty narrow approach and eliminates some of the best speakers for the money, not to mention some of the best speakers period. True, older speakers with foam surrounds will require more work to get them up and running, but if properly done the payoff is quite good.

And speakers with rubber surrounds are not without problems either. In place of all out dry-rotting you can find weather checked surrounds, and in that event, good luck trying to change them.

Plus, at least in my area, you are more likely to stumble across a set of Advents in great condition (even if they need the foam replaced) than you are a set of Dynacos in even poor condition.

Again, there is nothing wrong with the Dyanacos or Wharfedale E-series, or Koss speakers that use rubber surrounds... But to catagorically eliminate all speakers with foam surrounds is pretty drastic. And they do not ALWAYS need to be replaced.
