EICO HF-85 as a phono stage? Opine away!

Posted by TheJohnderosa on September 10, 2003 at 18:02:12:

I dropped of the EICO's (HF-85 & HF-22) at a local tech, and while I'm waiting the results of the variac power-up I was wondering about whether to use the HF-85 as a phono stage... There's a lot of options with the HF-85 as a pre-amp, so I kind of think that it would be a waste of equipment just to use it as a phono stage (I don't use the listening equipment for home theater or CD's).

I would be running the Thorens TD-160 Super through the HF-85, into an SAE Two A7 integrated, and out to ADS L880 speakers. I'm thinking maybe I should sell the EICO equipment & buy a tube phono stage... any opinions?
