Western Electric theatre amp in Melbourne

Posted by Timbo in Oz on March 9, 2012 at 17:17:26:

We recently visited Melbourne, capital of Victoria, and this did involve us in a long slow return due to the floods here in NSW and Vic.

But we also visited a classic steep slope seating movie theatre, The Astor in St Kilda (opened 1936) to see Hugo with friends and N kids, and there sitting in the corner and up the wall of the upstairs foyer was a 43A - IIRC. 20WPC for all that metal, eh?!

None of the four 211s was in place (;-)!?) but the 205s were, in the two punched mesh surrounds 2/3rds of the way up?! And, I don't CARE that it wasn't their BEST amplifier.

Started telling my audio-buddy Tim Casimir - and a whole bunch of folks gathered around, to listen in. He just pointed me at it, they live real close (<5min walk) and are 'friends' of the place, their boys go to the school that owns it as well.

There was also an ancient huge projector, but WGAS.

They are both in the far RHCorner of the third across/RH photo in the blog.

The film Hugo was a gem. Only a cloacal idiot would hate it. Sasha Baron Cohen was amazing AYMWExpect.
