I always thought that the Ohm F sounded good, but they were such power hogs! I would imagine stacking them wound help, but they probably would also very difficult to drive, limiting your amp choice. The 1290, on the other hand, was very efficient, easy to drive and could take huge amounts of power. It sounded great but was also a very well engineered speaker. It was one of my favorites too when I was in the business.
