DIY CD Transport

If I don't need the remote control and other fancy control / display stuff, just play, eject and stop button, what do I need to DIY a sound CD transport (top or front load). What circuits would I need? Where can I get the CD drive and schematics?
Presumably an over-engineered separate power supply and casing are envisaged.
