It seems my earlier message didn't go through, so thanks for wading through my lengthy post. I've been more concerned about wall treatments and thought the rug I have now is good enough for the floor. (And, to keep my explanation short, I omitted that there's a dining room table in front of the left bookcase and under the pass-through).
If I did make some sort of bass trap, do you have a second choise after burlap? I don't have anywhere I could spray fireproofing. Also, if I move the bookcases beside the couch, that would leave only about two feet between them and the side walls. Is that enough, especially if the bookcases are six feet tall.
