Since a lot of failures in tubed equipment occur at turn on, I use a soft start device with my tubed amp for each turn-on. It's just a couple of 200 watt light bulbs in series with the ac line, which get switched out with a light switch after the current surge has subsided. If the bulbs continue to glow bright, then it's time to find out why. A hair dryer works for this device as well. -Just a good safety device for high current equipment.
