Just wish to point-out that tweaker456 indicated 18 AWG solid core RG-6 cable. 18 AWG solid core involves unacceptable skin effect for line-level applications, while 18 AWG stranded conductors are not plagued with notably audible skin effect. Although it's somewhat unusual for an audio cable design to involve such a large gauge conductor for line-level applications, some Mogami, Oyaide, and other cable maker products do feature 18 AWG stranded conductors that are suitable for the purpose.
Sure would like to know what your findings might be, Jon, if you built a pair of balanced Mogami W3173 cables with gold-plated Switchcraft A Series XLR connectors. Can be used for both AES/EBU digital and line-level applications.
