I used some acrylic sheets to put a 'front' onto an open black glass cabinet. the colour is a perfect match but most importantly is it's a lot cheaper than glass. For you the important thing is that it has no effect on IR signals as I control a Sky TV box, Apple TV, spdif switcher and a HT processor through the acrylic with their usual remotes.
