Sounds like a good plan mitch. I've had many stands and have used different fillers, sand, cat litter, shot and found a great solution that doesn't make a mess or leak. Go to your local Home Depot or Lowe's and get a bag or 2 of small pebbles. I think they come in 35lbs. or so. Make sure that they are completely dry before using. They are easy to pour and reuse. Shake the stands several times during the fill to seat and pack the pebbles.
