RE: 40mm x 10mm Carbon Fiber Discs

Posted by bcowen on February 5, 2017 at 14:24:39:

Thanks Duster. You've piqued my curiosity, so I just ordered a couple sets to experiment with. I have some Herbies 40mm Grungebusters already, and a bin full of BDR cones. Main difference is I'll be using a Neuance for the shelf/platform. I did a LOT of experimenting a number of years ago with different shelf/platform materials from solid woods to laminates to carbon fibers and even to different metals and metal constrained hardwoods, and while my experiments didn't cover even a fraction of the materials or combinations possible, the Neuance's simply killed anything I compared them to. Sad they are no longer available (which is why I normally don't go on and on about them here).

From your post below:

After many experiments, I find an acoustically dead platform to sound very dull and lifeless. It's total overkill and pointless, to my ear.

I couldn't agree more, so your suggestions on your tuning methods have me quite interested. Thanks!
