Diffusion confusion

I often use diffusion.
But IMO, it can be tricky.
If the sound we are diffusing is high enough in amplitude, or worse, the result of very uneven frequency response from a speaker's off-axis refections, the LAST thing I want to do is diffuse an unpleasant sound.
It can be great in the right application, though. I just wouldn't think of it as a first choice panacea.
