......sometimes the cabling IS the source of the brightness, due to untamed resonances (read: vibrations) in a particular cable design (i.e., most). And as far as "exceptionally bright sound" coming out of one's speakers....it's not always the speakers fault, either. I proved that just the other week with an expensive new Lowther-based speaker I heard at a friend's....it was the cabling (please e-mail me privately about this).
But I agree with you wholeheartedly about the use of wood as a cable support. I've posted about that very thing on AA before and on SoundStage, even recommending shoeboxes for a very cheap fix, rather than the "dreaded plastic". I use Gaboon ebony myself.
