another principal is mass. adding mass also reduces vibrational magnitude.

think of it as more than just a 'path'. it's much more complex than that.

size and number of contacts is important as this relates to relative weight. mass is important, as is the number of poc's + where those are located, + that relates to time, and so on and so on.

another principal is that two coupled masses are now one. they share the v. magnitude; let's say the objects are of like mass; the magnitude is reduced by 1/2...

I personally do not like absorbative materials for coupling ["isolation"] purposes. they cause time smear; and in audio, that is never good. if it isolates say, more than it smears; yeah, it probably sounds better, but if you were to reduce the magnitude =ly, rigidy, it would sound better, I assure you.
