Re: Performance: BlackGate FK vs. Cerafine

Posted by Panelhead on October 26, 2004 at 03:39:46:

I have a sack with a lot of the 100v 100 ufd and 100v 220ufd Cerafines in it. Shoot your address and I can send you some to try.
The BG are a better sounding cap than the Cerafine. But in a filter cap bypass I am not sure you will be able to tell which is better.
And I would bypass the Cerafine with a small cap also. My fave is the Siemens stacked foil caps. The 1 ufd 100v are cheap locally.
If I remember, the 100 ufd Cerafine were a 1.00 each at Angela Instruments a few years back.
Another idea, instead of spending 14.00 for the BG bypass, try upgrading the main filter caps. I do not know what is there, but Panasonic makes some nice big caps, and a little more are the wonderfull Jensen 4 pole caps.
Before the dollar rolled off the edge of the table the Jensens were 19.00 each. They are about 27.00 - 30.00 now.
