Walker SST works!

Posted by Robert in Alaska on June 19, 2004 at 11:43:12:

Just wanted to add my impressions of Walker SST contact treatment. I received the packet in the mail last night and, being very curious, applied it first thing this morning. I applied to all 8 tubes in the ARC Ref 1 linestage (as I had read this is where it seems to have greatest effect) and to the speaker ends of the speaker cables. As I fired it up it was a noticeable difference. I hate to say this but "it was as if a veil was lifted". I swear I have never used--or even thought--that phrase before. Everything seemed to be clearer and more articulate, but especially at the extremes. Perceived loudness increased. The only potential downside I would offer is that I can imagine it could make some systems sound too forward or revealing. I thought this at first myself, but as the preamp warmed up, I realized it was just letting me hear that bit of roughness that the Ref 1 displays when cool. Expensive stuff, but worth it, especially considering you may only need to apply once.
