I can play the horns of the T-1 quite loud with a 45. And the reason to go for a "tweaked" LaScala is for roughly the same outlay, you can have a speaker than is more flexible in terms of flea-powered amps.

I see the Cary/Soliloquy pairing is an attempt to make a low powered amp palatable to the non-SET oriented audiophile. It comes in a familiar package ("cat coffin"), but at 91 dB and even with a nominal Z of 10 Ohm, it's not gonna do for a 2A3 what a Lowther, Altec 604, EdgarHorn, CAR T-1 or Harsfield, or other horn will do. I think the "optimization" in this case came from Marketing.
