My VTA can also run different output tubes. The EL34's are the coolest running of the bunch. However, as others have already said, it's not that much cooler. In my case it's still too hot.

If you REALLY must run tubes in the summer then you're best option is to find a nice EL84 amp. I live in Arizona where the summer (May-October) temps average over a 100 degrees. My Sherwood EL84 runs at a temperature that doesn't over power the AC and fans ability to cool off the room.

I also run a SS Marantz 250M when it gets really hot. But beware if you go the SS amp route. Some of them, like my NAD C2775BEE can also run as hot as a tube amp.
