RE: Sonic attributes of Tungsol EL34Bs

Posted by petercapo on March 15, 2017 at 19:39:37:

Don't know if this will be of any value, but I have a quad of Tung Sol EL34B and do not like the way they sound in my Dynaco Stereo 70. I suppose they might sound different in another amp, but in my Stereo 70 they are too laid back, the top end is too recessed, and they don't image well - sounds too localized within the speakers. One distinguishing feature of the TS EL34B is the strong bass, which others have commented on.

Perhaps if you want a brighter, more open and energetic sound, go with the Electro Harmonix. The Tung Sols will be darker and more laid back, I suspect. Of course, YMMV.
