Question about Siemens ECC82/E82CC/5814a variants

Posted by LKDog on April 29, 2007 at 13:06:05:

I have done some searches here and read up on a couple sites that sell these tubes and am just a little confused as to what to look for if I wanted to try a pair in my setup.

Is there a major difference between the sound of the:

5814 triple mica
ecc82
e82cc
versions of these tubes?

Which is considered the best and what is a fair price on these?
Any good sources for them?

I have a cheap used pair of ECC82's coming that is supposedly produced in the 60's. (see link)
I was thinking if I liked their character I would look for a better version of this tube and for $10 couldn't complain too much if they were not so hot.

Any comments are welcome and appreciated.
