The Role of the 12AT7 ??

I've recently changed all the tubes on my MFA preamp, with great results.
I use Golden Dog tubes no more, except for the 12AT7 in the phono stage...my dealer says it will make no/little difference to upgrade this tube because its a cathode driver.
Any comments here??
When I changed the other 2 tubes in the phono stage to 12AX7 Tronix, the improvement was MAJOR! So is it worth it to change the 12AT7???
