Re: David Berning ZH270 & Maggies?

David Berning actually used Magneplanars as the primary speaker for development of the ZH270, and has a friend who has used the 270 with his Magnepans with good results. David's Planars are the old IIIs, and are closer to 8 ohms.

I asked him how a 4-ohm speaker would affect the full power bandwidth of the amp, which is specified with an 8-ohm load. The power bandwidth (-3dB) is 2 Hz-80kHz normal feedback into 8 ohms. The 4-ohm bandwidth will be reduced in the high frequencies but not in the lows. He guessed 50kHz.
