JAN-Philips 5751: Is it me, or what?

Hi,
Okay, I just installed a single JAN-Philips 5751 in my Jolida JD-102B (it only takes one in the preamp section) to lower the gain a bit, and I swear it did nothing at all. I'm almost convinced it even raised the gain!
Has anyone else experienced this when using the JAN-Philips 5751, or any 5751 for that matter? I'd sure like to know. Maybe the JAN is really a 12AX7 branded as a 5751? I don't know, but it sure has me confused. Thanks for any inputs.
