In fact, overvoltages due to lightning can be direct striking causing castastropic failure of equipment, secondly due to ground of lightning causing induction on ground voltage(beware if you're standing on both feet) and thirdly, induction by electromagnetic field caused by adjacent lightning striking an overhead line. The latter causes are less severe.
