underappreciated

Headphones are underappreciated, mostly because they are usually driven with crap and thus sound like crap.
However....when you think about it, a 97db/mw neodymium magnet full range driver that goes 17hz-25khz, for only $150 a pair, at 300 ohms so you can drive it with ease with an OTL, that doesn't bother the neighbors and doesn't take up any living room space, should be every tubehead's wet dream.
It's not hard to design your own headphone amp. How about a 417A single-tube amp? Or something based on a 71A run at a sleepy 90V? I'm chewing over a direct-coupled OTL PP amp right now. Or how about a 47 Labs-ish approach to an OPA134 amp using 9V batteries for power? How about a single-ended direct-coupled OTL using the 6AS7? Or a Circlotron built with 6N1Ps? Go nuts.
