Re: Gabe's mag-1515 PP EL84 amp?

Posted by TnT on August 27, 2002 at 13:12:52:

I am one of those who really believe in that weird Magnavox circuit. For some reason, it just sound right to me. The midrange is not lush, like that of the HF-81, but is clean and natural. I bought one of those Magnavox console amps and I gotta say it, and the Dynaco SCA-35 are my two favorite el84 amps. My other el84 amps are Eico HF-81, Fisher 460A (cute little amp from a console), Gulbransen APS-6 (amp from an organ). So, if you like a lush and warm midrange, go for the Eico circuit. If you like clean and natural and definitely NOT solid state, go for Gabe's kit. You can't go wrong either way.

Please note that there are also others' comments on this magnavox amp if you do a search on the tube and the tweak/DIY forums.
