FlaCharlie,
Does the Sansui ( Sanfooey??) transformer have taps for a screen gid? If so, you have other possibilities to try and hear.
First of all, I assume from your post time, you have not yet read my recent post ( URL Below ). Please do so.
If you try out the approach I carefully explain and suggest, I would like you to try BOTH the full primary winding and the screen taps winding, as the primary load to the P-P 6B4G plates.
DETERMINE WHICH IS BEST BY EAR ..ONLY, ON YOUR SPEAKER LOAD.
Now, the tecno cats will tell you that trying the screens, if they exist, will give higher distortion ( by the book ) and I know this...but that is not ALL of the picture, they don't ever consider the entire picture.
So, although this post seems to hijack the thread, TRY it for yourself and LET US KNOW in the future what sounded best to you. There IS a basis to what I suggest, but I will not explain it, just LISTEN and decide. How it sounds to YOU, and you alone, is what matters. Its easy to do !! All I suggest is that you listen for yourself, IF screen taps exist, because it has a possibility to be better.
I can't wait for Tre' to carefully and theoretically explain on Forum that what I suggest is not good at all, while I say, I know all of that... try it anyhow and determine the true answer .... the truth, by ear !!
If screen taps exist, you have flexibility, an option.
Hey Tre', don't I make DIY Audio Forum more interesting for you.. Go get em buddy.
