Is suspect it's the iron. IIRC they choose not to wind with UL taps.
I have heard rebuilt ones which were very impressive. Have an old one in the shop waiting for some time to rebuild. Will likely rob the Iron and rebuild as a power amp with a seperate screen supply.
EL-84 is a much better sounding tube than most will admit.
