When first checking out some high end audio stores, I listened to dozens of speakers. Most sounded pretty good, B&W's, Snells, Vandersteens, Wilson, Thiel, Dunlavey, in all price ranges from $1000 to $20K. Then I heard a pair of 20's in a room that was less than ideal for them, and it blew all of them away. No contest. I've since heard Quads, Meridian, Legacy, Martin Logans, and some come close but can't do everything as well as the 20's.
If I had a dedicated room that could handle them, I'd give up my car for a used clunker and buy a pair.
